Phil Cudahy, PresidentPhil CudahyPHIL CUDAHY recently retired from her position as Director of Health Education and Community Special Projects at a large county health department in Florida. Her experience includes being the owner of an Arabian horse farm, therapist on staff of a community family counseling center, private practice counselor, director of a regional AIDS organization, and working with the State of Florida on emergency response to natural disasters and mental health issues. She began her Satir training in 1999, and truly believes that the Satir model provides the tools for positive change in individuals, organizations, and communities worldwide.

Dr. Barbara BurnsBarbara BurnsBARBARA J. BURNS, Ph.D., is Professor of Medical Psychology and Director of the Services Effectiveness Research Program in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Duke University School of Medicine.  Dr. Burns is a nationally recognized mental health services researcher with over 200 publications in this area.  Her research career emerged from clinical practice in an integrated health/mental health center and interest in exploring the implications of that model.  For nearly a decade at the National Institute of Mental Health, she focused on improving mental health services from primary to tertiary care.  Current studies are investigating the effectiveness of an enhanced model of long-term treatment foster care, best practices for child trauma, and mental health services received by children in the child welfare system.  Throughout her research, teaching, clinical practice, and policy career, Dr. Burns has studied and advocated for responsive and innovative community-based treatment.  Her current research is focused on strategies to enhance implementation of effective clinical interventions for youth with severe emotional disturbance.

Jean McLendon, Director of FacultyJean McLendonJEAN MCLENDON is widely recognized as a master in the use of the Satir Model and methods. Mentored by Virginia Satir for nearly twenty years, Jean has expanded the scope and influence of the work worldwide and travels extensively teaching this global approach to congruent interactions. Jean has over thirty years of experience as a change agent and maintains a multi-service private practice which includes coaching, business consultation, therapy, and supervision. She has been on the faculty of the University of North Carolina, and NIMH Staff College. She is a faculty specialist with the Whole Systems Design Graduate Program at Seattle University and President of Avanta, The International Virginia Satir Network.

Bill DavisBill DavisBILL DAVIS is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice in Chapel Hill, NC. He moved to the Triangle area after twenty-seven years in Norfolk-Virginia Beach, VA. Bill has been in private practice, a preceptor for US Navy addictions counselors for fourteen years, and a faculty member at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He has worked in outpatient, inpatient, and residential settings. He works with adolescents and adults in individual, couple, family, and group therapy. Bill is currently a faculty member of the Satir Institute of the Southeast, and has been a trainer in the Satir Model for many years.

Regina Ragan, Executive DirectorRegina RaganREGINA RAGAN discovered Virginia Satir in graduate school at The University of South Florida.  Since moving to North Carolina in 1999, she has completed extensive training in the Satir Model at the Year Long Practitioner Development Workshop in Chapel Hill. Regina and her colleague, Laurie Harris, LCSW, have also designed and implemented a self-esteem group for adolescent girls based on the Model. Regina's commitment to sharing the Satir Model with others has taken her to Hong Kong, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan.  In Chapel Hill, Regina maintains a full-time psychotherapy practice for children, adolescents and adults, and serves as the Executive Director of SIS.

Martine DevosMartine DevosMARTINE DEVOS works as a researcher for Avaya Researchlabs in New Jersey. She has a background in economics, computer science and system dynamics. She is currently in charge of a System Dynamics project within Avaya looking at persistence of ‘firefighting behavior’ in multi-release product development: an attempt to use General Systems Thinking, principles of Learning Organization and Weinberg's application of Satir's family therapy. She has help from MIT and gurus like Weinberg and Senge. She teaches project dynamics within the company. She received the title of ICT manager of the year for a software development project for the Belgian government. She published about both the “hard and soft side” of software development.

Diana Newton, Vice-PresidentDiana NewtonDIANA NEWTON is currently the Principal of Falling Apples Consulting, where she focuses on developing individuals and teams to achieve superior results in the areas of leadership, management, customer service, and teamwork. She recently designed a comprehensive blended learning program for all new managers worldwide for a Fortune 100 company. Diana has spent the past ten years conducting training on leadership, performance management, managing change, team building, and conflict management for corporations, academic institutions, health care organizations, foundations, and governmental organizations. The Satir Growth Model is integrated throughout her work to facilitate positive change and lifelong learning.

Dr. Jesse CarlockJesse Carlock JESSE CARLOCK, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Dayton, Ohio for over 30 years. She is also a crisis consultant with Supportive-Solutions, Inc. and Crisis Care Network, conducting critical incident resilience stress debriefings for corporations and preparing workers to serve in trauma affected areas. A Clinical Professor of Psychology for Wright State University, Jesse has also been a member of the Satir Avanta Network since 1981. She is the author of Enhancing Self-Esteem (3rd Edition) as well as other publications and is Associate Editor of the new Journal of Satir Therapy.

Susan Fowler, SecretarySusan FowlerSUSAN FOWLER is a facilitator, organizational consultant, and writer who has worked with a variety of non-profit and public organizations over the last fifteen years. Her work has included a variety of strategic planning, evaluation, and program planning projects, as well as extensive experience in group facilitation, team building, and research. She uses Satir methods to support her own growth and in her work with organizations.

John SuzukiJohn SuzukiJOHN SUZUKI is the founder and principal consultant of JKS & Associates, a consulting organization based in Southern California. His professional interests include applying the Satir Model to technical organizations, helping organizations communicate more congruently and creating experiences that help make technical organizations more humane. I am a PSL, Change Shop, SEM, Leader's Forum, Experiential Workshop, Satir Writers Workshop, Satir Yearlong and Satir Leadership Development.

Barry Groner, TreasurerBarry GronerBARRY GRONER is currently a Senior Software Architect at IBM’s Research Triangle Park, North Carolina location. He has been involved with many aspects of computing for over 30 years. Barry attended the first Personal Development Workshop led by Jean McLendon and Hugh Gratz, which was based on the teachings of Virginia Satir.   It was a life changing event that kindled an ongoing interest in Satir’s methods.
