Our MissionThe mission of the Satir Institute of the Southeast (SIS) is to foster congruence by increasing the number of individuals and systems adept at using the models and methods of Virginia Satir.

Her vision was to help empower people to reach their full potential. Learn more about the woman referred to by many as "the pioneer of family therapy".

What is congruence? The essentials of congruent living developed by Virginia Satir include:

  • Clear communication
  • Cooperation rather than competion
  • Empowerment rather than subjugation
  • Enhancement of individual uniqueness rather than categorization
  • Use of authority to guide and accomplish "what fits," rather than forced compliance, tyranny or power
  • Love, value, and respect for oneself fully
  • Being personally and socially responsible
  • To use problems as challenges and opportunities for creative solutions
